Duke, which started the season as the +1240 second-favorite in the March Madness odds, has faded to +2457 (tenth-best odds). At +19643, Virginia Tech is not among the top 50.
Duke Rebounds After Hiccup Against Pitt
In a puzzler of a game, the Blue Devils had their eight-game win streak interrupted on Jan. 20 by Pitt at Cameron Indoor, losing 80-76 to the Panthers as 12.5-point home favorites. Pitt was electric from three that night, shooting 50% from beyond the arc, and crushed the Blue Devils on the glass (32 to 25).
Jon Scheyer’s team responded with a 14-point road win over lowly Louisville (83-69) and a narrow home win over a fading Clemson team (72-71) thanks to a pair of game-winning free throws from Tyrese Proctor with one second remaining.
The Clemson win was notable for the fact that Duke managed to win despite a dismal performance from leading scorer and rebounder Kyle Filipowski (17.7 PPG, 8.7 RPG), who had just nine points (on 2-of-8 shooting), four rebounds, four blocks, and five fouls in 24 minutes.
Freshman guard Jared McCain came up huge in Filipowski’s veritable absence, scoring 21 points on 8-of-12 shooting with five rebounds, three steals, and two assists in 32 minutes.
Duke currently sits 14th in the KenPom ratings (12th on offense, 37th on defense), 18th at Haslametrics, and just 23rd at Torvik.
Filipowski, who started the season as the second-favorite to Zach Edey in the Wooden Award odds at +875, has faded all the way to fourth at +4250 as the Purdue center runs away with this second Player of the Year honor.

Virginia Tech Faces Duke on Three-Game Win Streak
After a slow 2-4 start to ACC play, the Hokies enter Monday night on a three-game win streak which includes an 84-78 road win at NC State and a pair of home victories over Boston College (76-71) and Georgia Tech (91-67).
In his final year in Blacksburg, senior center Lynn Kidd (14.0 PPG, 6.6 RPG) continued to blossom last time out against the Yellow Jackets. The 6’10 big man scored a team-high 18 points with four rebounds in just 15 minutes of action during the blowout win. Kidd averaged just five points per game in 12.7 minutes as a junior.
Led by the solid backcourt duo of Sean Pedulla (15.7 PPG, 4.4 APG) and Hunter Cattoor (13.7 PPG, 42.9 3P%), Mike Young’s Hokies rate 51st at KenPom and Torvik and 53rd at Haslametrics. All three analytics sites predict a narrow Duke win of two points or fewer.

Duke vs Virginia Tech Prediction
Virginia Tech has all the pieces to give Duke issues. They shoot well from three (36.6%, 51st in the country) and they clean up their own glass, allowing opponents just a 26.3 offensive rebound percentage.
The Hokies have also won three in a row against Duke outside of Durham (two home wins and a neutral-court win). Virginia Tech is 4-1 at home in ACC play, their only loss coming in a nail-biter to Miami (75-71), a game they led at halftime.
Playing their best basketball of the season heading into their highest-profile game of the season to-date, expect a big first-half performance from Pedulla and company.
Duke vs Va Tech pick: Hokies first-half moneyline (+118) – two units
