Inter Miami’s 2024 got off to a less-than-thrilling start at Estadio Cuscatlán, a 0-0 draw against the El Salvador national team in their first friendly of preseason. But while the on-field action didn´t produce a goal, it did leave MLS defenders with a worrying sight: Lionel Messi and Luis Suárez reunited.
Herons head coach Tata Martino opted to play Messi and Suárez – as well as Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba – from the start, giving the ex-Barça stars 45 minutes on the field together before substituting them all at the break. With that in mind, we’re expecting to see more from Messi and co. against FC Dallas on Monday evening.
Miami and Dallas met in last year’s Leagues Cup and played out a thrilling 4-4 draw, which the Herons eventually won on penalties. Dallas, playing at home, took a 3-1 lead but were pegged back in the late stages. Messi scored twice at Toyota Stadium and successfully converted his spot kick in the shoot-out.
