New look Cleveland Cavaliers are finding their stride and with San Antonio yet to find theirs, expect LeBron and company to win on home turf
LeBron James’s homecoming has taken a little while to gain some steam, but with the Cleveland Cavaliers starting to gel after an off-season of change, they are starting to look like the star team everyone feared. Kyrie Irving is getting used to playing second-fiddle to the best in the game and Kevin Love is finding his place in a playoff-bound team, which should signal warning to everyone in the NBA, especially the San Antonio Spurs when they meet on Wednesday night.
The Champions have had a mixed start with a 5-4 record, which oddly sees them at the bottom of a stacked Southwest Division. Many thought they’d be the team to beat again, which they still could be come playoff time, but they’ve not come quickly out of the blocks this time around. With the Cavs coming in with plenty of momentum and wanting a big signature win over the Spurs, take them at 18/25 to hand them another defeat in this one.
San Antonio’s issues at the moment seem to stem from offence, they’ve averaged 94.4 points per game so far and have been nowhere near as efficient as we saw in the NBA Finals last season. They are still a stout outfit in defence, sitting third with an average of 93.7 points against them, but this high-powered Cavaliers team could just give them the edge in the one. With that in mind, it should be a pretty close affair, possibly coming down to a final bit of magic from King James against the team that broke his heart in May, so look at Cavs to win by a margin of 1-3 points at 7/1.
However, these games tend to throw in a little drama and there will be some tension inside that building against a big team so they might start off a little slowly. They have shown that they can close out a game recently in their win against the Atlanta Hawks, the Cavs made their last nine 3-point attempts, so that looks an ideal recipe for an excellent come-from-behind win. Go for the Spurs to be winning at half-time only for the Cavaliers to take the win at 5/1, the Spurs will tire a little on defence and if they struggle to shoot, the crowd push the Cavaliers over the line.
