After a two-year absence, Conor McGregor is set to return to the cage later this year to face Michael Chandler. No date has yet been set for the fight, but fans are eager to see him in action again for the first time since he broke his leg in a bout against Dustin Poirier in 2021.

McGregor has entered the Octagon only four times since 2016, but he continues to be the biggest star in the history of mixed martial arts. He banked more than $30 million for his last fight against Poirier, as well as for his first-round knockout of Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone in January 2020. His previous matchup with Poirier earned him an estimated $22 million.
These earnings include both base salary and pay-per-view payouts.
Number one in 2021
According to Forbes, Conor McGregor earned $43 million in 2022, making him the 35th highest-paid athlete of the year. This is a plunge from his previous ranking as top earner among all athletes.
The Notorious was ranked number one by Forbes for his $180 million income in 2021. The bulk of this amount came from selling his majority stake in whiskey brand Proper No. Twelve for $150 million.

The fighter-turned-entrepreneur founded the popular Irish whisky with strong sales across the globe, due to the strength of McGregor’s personal brand.
In 2019, McGregor posted on social media, revealing his delight in his first year in the whiskey business: “Over $1b generated in Whiskey sales in my first year! Like it or not, there is a new King in town! Proper Whiskey, liquid sunshine!”

Record earnings outside the cage
McGregor’s income for 2021 made him only the third athlete after Roger Federer and Tiger Woods to collect more than $70 million in a span of twelve months outside of competing, while maintaining his status as a professional sportsman.
According to MMA salaries, the 34-year-old has earned around $100 million from his fights. The mixed martial artist has also made money from endorsements, having supported brands such as Burger King, Reebok, and Beats by Dre.
